Lounging Around....

Hey! Whatcha wearing? =) I am assuming most of you are at home...so I want to know what you all wear when you're home? There was an amazing quite by someone awesome (Karl Lagerfeld maybe) that what a person wears at home really tells a lot about the person, moreso than he/she wears in public. So I looked at myself in the mirror, gasped, and dragged the Boy to the mall to get something to wear at home that is not old, too big, too tight, or has random holes in random places (true story!). Honestly, I just never cared what I look like at home. I just want to be comfy, and not care if I drop some ice-cream on my shirt. As long as the Boy still finds me attractive it shouldn't matter, right? WRONG! The other day I got up and thought we were out of cream cheese (the HORROR!) so I put on some street clothes all ready to troop to the store, but the Boy stopped me by door saying he just bought some the night before. So I stayed home but still wore the clothes and I felt...different. I was more awake, less sloppy, and generally felt more alive. I actually wanted to accomplish something, even though it was a Saturday aka lazy day. So I realized that what you wear at home can affect your attitude towards everything. Sloppy, dirty clothes make you feel sloppy, which leads to lazy, which leads to wasting away on Farmville all day long...soooooooooo shopping I went.

After a visit to Victoria's Secret, American Eagle, Aerie, and surprisingly Old Navy [softest lounge pants EVAR!] I was set with a new lounge wardrobe and I love it. In fact I feel so motivated I started blogging again...muahahaha! Now I just want to give you a little disclaimer...looking good at home, does mean "Stepford Wife" with the heels, skirts, and make-up. What it means to me is comfortable, but clean, well-fitting, cute clothes, in which you're not embarrassed to open the door for the UPS guy, or to run to the corner store for an errand. Something that is cozy, but put-together, and NOT jeans. So here goes...

I won't post pictures of my haul this time, but here are some things I am coveting:

American Eagle top...on sale for $10...I actually bought this one =)

ASOS henley...I just love henleys, something about those 3 buttons gets me every time...

Forever 21 pant...under $10 and... well there is no "and" it is UNDER $10!!!

Cozy UGG slippers...the pom-poms...I D.I.E. ... too freaking cute and warm...and cute...did I mention the pom-poms?

Winter Woes continued...

1. I am a horrible blogger who posts very sporadically...but ya'll love me anyway right? RIGHT?? please say Yes *bats lashes*

2. Whenever I find-out something good I just want to share it with you guys...so here goes...

Have any of you ever looked at the back of your arms and noticed weird flesh colored bumps that came out of nowhere? You don't have to admit but I know some of you did...and wondered what in the hell are those??? It is most likely keratosis pilaris, more commonly known as chicken skin. And it is just as gross as chicken skin, at least I think it is. I'll be honest and admit I get these every single winter..without fail..blargh! This was the bad news. The good news is that I finally figured out how to get rid of it. It is so simple that a monkey can do it...if monkeys got keratosis pilaris, which I am not sure they do, but IF they did, they could easily get rid of it.

Anyhoo, according to Wikipedia, or some equally reliable source, KP is caused by lack of moisture in the air. Since your skin is very dry it is actually little hairs that can't poke through the skin (eeek) so they stay right under it and cause bumps (double eeeek). So the key is hydration and exfoliation. Once I read that I followed a simple routine and it worked like a charm. Every time I take a shower I use a sugar-based body scrub like this one:

I take a small amount and rub it on the backs of my arms only...rub, rub, and rub, until the sugar melts. You can use a salt scrub instead, but those are much harsher, and if your skin is really dry it can get into the cracks and sting (OUCH!), so I stick with the sugar scrubs instead.

Once it melts, I was it off and go on with my shower. Then once I get out I put lotion as usual with one exception. I take a large glob of very rich lotion, like this:

(I recommend creme, not lotion - not moisturizing enough for this) and rub it on the back of my arms in the specific spots affected by KP. That way my skin gets the optimum amount of moisture and the bumps do not get a chance to form. Easy peasy I think.

Workplace Debauchery

Every year a few weeks before Christmas my office has a door decorating contest. Every department that wants to participate submits their name and chooses a door in the offices to decorate. This year one representative picked out a name of a country from a box and then decorate their door based on winter holidays celebrated in that country. I was that representative and I was hoping oh so much for any country with snow. I had so many ideas, already bought some cotton and silver sparkles and I ended up pulling out - GUYANA!! WTF? At first I was devastated, I mean it is in South America so there is no snow, none, not even a snowflake. All they have are palm trees and sunshine - oh the horror!! What they DO have is a very festive holiday season, complete with masquerades, steel drum bands, a cow character, presents and tons of animals. And apparently they even have Father Christmas aka SANTA!!!

So two of my coworkers and I spent 2 days and $25 maximum budget allowed] decorating the door and it looks AWESOME! * pats self on back *

Tick Tock

Those who know me know that I hate watches. h.a.t.e. I really don't know why, I mean I love bracelets.. A LOT, but watches always feel clunky and just weird and they interfere with my cute bracelets. I also don't see the point of watches. If I need to tell time I have a phonoe, and IPod, wall clocks, computer and numerous other devices that tell time. Or I can always ask someone...other people wear watches so they know the time...at least most of the time...anyways..
I also roll my eyes and pretend to go to sleep when the Boy and his friends start discussing watches and whose is more expensive. By the way the prices of the watches are freaking bizarre!! Why would someone spend $15K + on a watch??? My car cost less than that and it was brand spanking new piece of German machinery, that 5 years later still looks almost new! Granted I barely drive it, but sooooo not the point here...mmmkay?! The point is that I don't give a damn or a dime about your Pateks, Rolexes, Tourneaus or whatever. Watches suck! And then.....

I fell in love...with a watch....a REAL watch...no lie. It's not a $15K watch, or even a $1K watch, but it is purrrrty and I needz it NAO!

It has the trendy men's shape/size, but the subtle hearts and the diamonds make it girly enough. I can totally wear it out to a lounge and next morning to a business meeting. Not that I go to business meetings or anything... we do have staff meetings, but UGGS are actually allowed as long as no donors are present...$$ donors not blood donors..blood donors don't care about UGGS...and this watch would go perfectly with UGGS too...because it goes with everything. *Le Sigh*

And the pumps I did not want to jinx below have been jinxed. Yes my friends, my feet are in major pain "hand salute - Major Pain!" This was a How I Met Your Mother reference, get with the program! Back to shoes... OWWWW!!! I am oh so tempted to sneak out and buy dress socks, but that would require getting up and walking in my painful-ass shoes!! I'll just sit here and distract myself with something shiny by staring at the watch... *mmmmmm....sexyyyyy*

'Tis the Season to Have More Pinky....

No I did not have a Christmas music overload, because that is just not possible, mhmm. I can openly admit that 345757 versions of "Little Drummer Boy" is not enough...srsly. Even the Ashley Simpson version is not that bad...ok now I think I may have gone too far.

Anyhoo. After a 2 month break I decided I miss my blog so freaking much. And the Boy was getting so tired of listening to my fashion/makeup/polish/hair drivel that he actually asked why I do not blog anymore..yes, I know, OMG!! I also discovered an awesome blog, by a fellow shortie that I loved reading so much and it was the final straw...I had to come back. Granted, I won't be able to post every single day [not that I ever did lol] but I will do my best. And if my best is not good enough for you then feel free to pay me the same amount my job pays me and then I'll blog ALL DAY LONG...I totally would.

My blogging break was filled with bad [Grammy dying] and good [passing 2 Bars..w00t!], the unfun [family dinners] and fun [family dinners], exciting [interviews] and sucky [no callbacks from these said interviews], and yes fashion was omnipresent. I am proud to announce I have my New Years dress and it's hot, hot, hot!!! Not too fancy since we will be at someone's house, but cute enough for the occasion.

I could sell them, but I would not want to inflict this cruelty on anyone else. So yea...these pumps definitely have "potential" but I won't officially declare their perfection just yet.

Life Trumps Blog. I just started my new temp job and I am staring into the computer 8-9 hours a day. Blogger and Wordpress are blocked which sucks donkey @ss! My only joy is FarmVille on Facebook...I can't believe FB is not locked, but so many other things are...BOOO!

I still read all of yours and try to comment whenever I can, but honestly when I get home the last thing I want to do is stare at the computer some more. So yeah, I haven't disappeared or left, I am just taking a break for a little bit...love you all!! MWAAA

Remembering 9-11

Late post, but I can't blog at work, so here it is an hour before the day is over - MY 9/11 story.

On that day I was a senior in highschool. I woke up earlier than usual so I could put on make-up and pick out a sexy outfit to impress a boy. I picked out the tightest jeans, a cropped top and the highest heels I've ever owned - 6 inches [with platform]. I was feeling so proud of myself and hoped today would be the day he's ask me to Burritoville after classes.
I got to school very early. My school had this thing called "0 period" which came before 1st period and started at 8:10. The class was photography. I got there on time and we were sitting in our seats and watching our classmates present their pinhole camera projects. At around 8:40 someone went to the bathroom - nothing unusual. 6 minutes later he ran into the classroom and in a strangely calm voice said that a plane just crashed into the WTC. We looked at him like he was from Mars. The teacher, Mr. Gordon asked "What the hell are you talking about?" The boy said he just saw it in the window -- my school was 3 blocks from WTC...yes THREE blocks. Mr. Gordon brushed him off, but he persisted. Finally, we turned on the TV and saw the most horrifying sight. Then we heard the second crash. The intercom went on and we were told to stay put, but we ran like hell. All the entrances were locked and the FBI was on its way because our Senator's daughter was in my classes. Cellphones were not working and everyone was frantic. We didn't know what was happening, there were rumors and tears and utter chaos. Some students lit up cigarettes inside the building and noone cared.
Finally, we were evacuated out of the building and had to walk uptown via WestSide highway. We found our friends and walked in small groups checking our phones for service the entire time. Somehow mine was the only one that was working. I called my Mom and told her I was fine, she was hysterical on the other end. I then lent my cell to anyone who needed it, some of them had parents and relatives working in the Towers that day.
We walked and walked and then at one point I felt a chill down my spine. My BFF and I stopped and so did many of those who were walking. As if on cue we turned around and watched. We watched the first tower come down. It was surreal, completely fucking unbelievable, like a movie. Noone dared to move. When the dust cleared we just stood there with our mouths open and then someone started wailing and we RAN. Heels or sneakers we all ran as fast as we could...as far away as possible.
I walked all the way to 59th street, so basically 70+ blocks...despite the enormous heels my feet did not hurt at all. I was numb. I met my friend on 59th [her HS was there] and we went to McDonald's. For some reason I had a hell of an appetite.

I will never forget this day for as long as I live. It is etched in my memory in vivid detail and at the same time is repressed so far down that I never cry about it...I am just numb. I refuse to watch documentaries, tributes, and I never went to WTC site afterwards. It is just my way of coping with it. I also did not wear heels for an entire YEAR after it happened. I did not realize I was doing this until my Mom pointed it out. I guess my brain was always ready to run.

I want to say thank you and God bless you to all the people who helped that day...to all those who risked their lives and to those who lost their lives selflessly helping those they did not even know. I also want the victims of the attack to know that you will never be forgotten and we all shed tears for you and pray for you.

May there never be another day such as this. May America never know such tragedy again. May those who did this suffer a death too horrible to describe and may they go to Hell after they die.

Labor Day Weekend!!

Argh! I've been so busy with my new "job" that I barely have time to read your blogs let alone post on mine. Being an adult SUCKS! And it is "business casual" which means that 90% of my closet is useless. Normally, I'd use this as an excuse to go shopping, but since I am getting paid peanuts even this is out of the question. But yeah, look forward to "business effing casual" posts...OY!

Anyhoo, this Labor Day weekend The Boy and I, and another couple went to Poconos in Pennsylvania. There we rented the cutest townhouse...so freaking cozy!

Sign in the hallway. So cheesy and yet it makes me feel all warm inside. I IZ a DORK!

This lamp is so perfect! Such simple design and yet it creates a certain ambiance that makes me think of the 18th century. LOVE. Candles are not real by the way.

I had the exact same clock in my house in Russia. I was so nostalgic I took 7 pictures of the damn clock. Too bad it was not actually working. Sure is purrrrty though.

Dining Room aka the place where we spent most of our time when we actually were inside. Kinda small, but cozy nevertheless.

Fireplace. Utterly useless in the summer, but in the winter I am sure it is super romantic, or a fire hazard, whatevs.

The Boy playing with a fake egg. There was a nest on top of the TV-stand with 2 fake bluebird eggs. The guys thought it was a toy, I just like the picture.

Day 2. Horseback riding. I haven't done it since I was 7 years old. I was told to kick the horse on the sides, but I had such trouble hurting the animal [Otis] that he was refusing to move. Finally, I got pissed and used the rubber whipping thingy. After a few hits Otis was trotting with the best of them. I am still a bit unsettled about having to do that though. =/

After horseback riding we went to check out some local towns. Look at the freaking mountains! How beautiful! Also impedes cellphone service, but that is secondary.

All the stores apparently close at 5pm...ummm WHAT? I am from NYC, nothing closes at 5pm here, life BEGINS at 5pm. Anyways, one store was open and the owner made a killing off of us because we bought anything remotely cute just because we were pissed at other stores. I mean C'MONNNNN it's a holiday weekend for crying out loud.

~ I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

~ More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

~ Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

~ I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they've invented the lighter?

~ Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

~ I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

~ Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet
or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

~ There is a great need for sarcasm font.

~ I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

~ How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

~ I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

~ I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

~ The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

~ A recent study has shown that playing beer pong contributes to the spread of mono and the flu. Yeah, if you suck at it.

~ Was learning cursive really necessary?

~ Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say."

~ I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

~ Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.

~ Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart," all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart."

~ How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

~ Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies"

~ What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

I love getting packages..LOVE! Every package for me is like a tiny Christmas morning. So today when I spotted something in my mailbox I literally flew down the stairs to see what it was. The box had international labels on it and said it came from Argentina...interesting!

Work-out & Werk!

First things first. The winner of my Giveaway is the wonderful Gabby of Gabby, She Wrote! I tried to post the Random.org results but I suck at life so it did not happen. But, trust me, she won fair and square =) I'll be emailing you shortly, sweetie!!!

Now, let's move on to office furniture! As far as I am concerned comfy office chairs just do not exist. There is always something wrong with one: too hard, too low, back is uncomfortable, too small, etc. I am also known to sit cross-legged in my chairs, which is very tough if you're wearing a skirt-suit. To me a perfect work chair is a La-Z-Boy type chair on which I can lay out and work on my laptop. Alas, the offices just don't get that *le sigh*. Since I am still on the lookout for the perfect "computer-desk chair" you can see why I was totally intrigued by these chairs below. A pilates ball AND a chair? Does it tighten your abs? Improve your posture? Make your booty fall asleep? I NEED to know!!!

This is my favorite of the three. Very modern design and it has back support and wheels!

Most professional of the three, perfect if you need to match it to your oak corner-office desk.

If you're broke and your company won't pay for it, just use a ball on it's own. This is bound to improve your balance, at least I think so, I mean why else would she do it??...More importantly, why is she wearing workout clothes at work?

~ Bliss Lemon+Sage Body Butter. I am 100% Cetaphil girl, but in the winter I need something more. I can't even begin to tell you guys how many tubes of this I have gone through. Very moisturizing albeit pricey.

~ Rimmel 60 Second nailpolish in Pink Punk. I normally use only salon brands, but Rimmel is an exception to that. The colors are bright and very opaque. Dries fast and lasts very long. I have been wearing this shades on my toes all summer and adore it. And the name is very appropriate dontya think?

~Swedish Fish candy. This is my guilty pleasure. I buy boxes of this stuff from Costco and have a few every single day. YUM!

~A PINK Magic 8 Ball. This is just for fun. I've loved those since I was a little girl, they are fun and you can keep shaking them until you get the answer you want. =)

Date Night

Last night the Boy and I went on a date. After 4.5 years of going out and a year of living together we still love to have nights where we dress up and go out to try new places and just enjoy each other's company. After a very stressful summer this date was exactly what we needed.

Currently NYC is having one of its numerous restaurant weeks. Participating venues offer pre-fixe entrees at very low prices. This time it is a 3-course meal for $35 per person. Considering that many of these places can run $100+ per person the deal is amazing. We picked a relatively new place called "Perry St."

The food there was amazingggg! I tried to take pictures, but the venue was very dark[and romantic] so just take my word for it.

Next we went to our favorite bar/lounge. The Boy took me there on our first date and we come back whenever we want to have good drinks and ambiance. We parked by 40 Bond Street, which had a sick design on the wall and the doorway. It was so beautiful we thought it was a perfect place for a mini-shoot.

This is our favorite Bar called "Temple Bar." Inside it is like a 20's bar with red velvet carpeting, vintage couches and dimmed lighting. They also give you a dish with popcorn and weird corn chip thingies. The drink prices are insane, but they are strong that we can never have more than 2 cocktails. So worth it!!!

THE LIST

Every time the Boy and I watch a Vin Diesel movie I have to gently remind him that I am allowed to drool over him openly. Why? Because he is on "The List." You know that list, everyone knows THE list this point. It is a list of famous people that, if given the opportunity, you can cheat on your significant other with and they can't be against it. I don't know anyone who has actually done this successfully though. I also wonder what about celebs who have lists? How does that work? Anyways, this is about MY list so, in no particular order, here are my 10 hotties that the Boy must let me sleep with...MUAHAHAHHA!

First up - Chris Meloni. I fell in lust with him when he was on HBO's "OZ" and I am still lusting over him on L&O SVU.....Yay for marathons!

Robert Downey Jr. I don't care about his drug problems or anything else...the man is HAWT! Deal with it and step off!

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - I never cared about WWF, but when The Rock appeared on the big screen I was smitten. And he is not just a hot body, if you ever watch an interview with him, he is just amazingly charsmatic and witty...MWAAAz!

Vin Diesel. Does he even need an explanation??? Some say he is too big [muscle-wise] but I think he is perfect. And can you just imagine him saying your name in his deep sexy voice while you two are in bed....Oh My I think I need a cold shower! And in case you're not convinced remember the scene from The Fast and The Furious when Vin picks up MRod by her butt and kisses her...YUM!

Edward Norton. He stole my heart in "Primal Fear" and kept it since then. He is an amazing actor and I think I am in love with his talent as much as with his looks, if not more. I hope he challenges the Hulk when we're in bed together =)

Robbie Williams can sing and he is just ridiculously good-looking! Perfect Combo. The Boy keeps telling me he is gay, but whatever, I don't believe this or care, he is still hot.

John Cena. He is just HOT, absolutely ridiculously HOT. I don't care if he has even one braincell, I really don't. Why? Just look at him!

Jake Gyllenhaal. He is just so adorable with his huge puppy-dog eyes. And he is talented. I am thinking he is more marriage material than THE LIST material, but I would not throw him out of bed either way =)~

Christiano Ronaldo aka the only reason to watch soccer. The man is just sooooo pretty and his Sanish blood is sure to be filled with mucho passion...OOFA!

Dolf Lundgren. Yes, he is like 60 years old at this point, but he is still hot. I am not sure he is worthy of THE LIST at this point, but I had a crush on him for so long, he deserves a spot. If you want to see him in his prime just rent Rocky VI, UNISOL or Red Scorpion [he spends 90% of the movie in a loin cloth!!!! ]. You will always be in my heart Dolf...ALWAYS!

Honestly, I would never cheat on the Boy even with one of these guys. I adore him and one night of celeb hottie passion would not be worth even a possibility of ruining our relationship. BUT it never hurts to drool once in a while. So who is on your list? Tell me so I can drool too =)

Proper Fashion Speak

Wow...I had the most hectic day today. Drove my mother to the airport in the afternoon which resulted in my driving through all 5 NYC boroughs. Also, I got lost at some point on the way to airport which prompted a huge fight between my mom and I since she is the number one backseat driver of all time. She yelled and screamed and told me to move out of my parents' apartment. Umm...helloooo I have been living with the boy for over a year now. Good job mother! Anyways, it is all fine now, and I hope she has a great flight.

On the way home as I was parking my car I saw my neighbor. We exchanged some neighborly pleasantries and I complimented her new bag. She said "Thank you, it's from Longchamp." I just stood there trying my best not to correct her. She pronounced Longchamp like Long-CHAMP...as in short for "Champion." Now a proper fashionista knows that the correct pronunciation is Long-Shaamp [I suck at writing out pronunciations btw]. This conversation prompted me to post the proper way to say the names of some of the fashion designers and brands that often get mispronounced. So read, enjoy, memorize!

Hair File Numero 1

This post was supposed to go out earlier, but I did not have the internet ALL DAY! Finally the Boy managed to fix it. Apparently my laptop is falling part, thankfully she decided to do that after the BAR Exam and not during...am I good at silver linings or what?!? =)

Anyways, time for the first hair file installment. Now normally you must wait a certain time to determine whether a product or technique works. BUT, and this is a big but, when something definitely does NOT work, it needs to be dealt with right away. So here goes...

The first step in hair care is washing your mane. Normally I am a shampoo-rinse-condition-rinse girl. However, after reading the forums I realized there is a plethora of ways to wash your hair. Some women go as far as never using shampoo, some use conditioner only, others use just water...OMG JUST WATER??? I totally need shampoo, so this technique was not for me. But I did get intrigued by a certain shampoo/conditioner combo and decided to try it for a week...well NEVER again will I do that. The method is fairly simple. First you shampoo, but only above the ears. Basically, you lather the shampoo on your crown ONLY, rub it in, massage the scalp while you do it and then leave it there. Then you take your conditioner and use it on the rest of the hair below your ears, which is called your length. you massage it in and also leave it there. Now you do your shower thing, shave, scrub, wash the body, whatever you need to do. Once you're done, rinse your hair for a VERY long time. And you're done...

In theory, this technique sounds wonderful. I would get to take care of my oily scalp with the shampoo and yet moisturize my lenght without drying it out. BUT, in practice the results were awful! My scalp was happy. It was clean, fluffy and voluminous. But my length was greasy and looked like it had years of build-up on it. The worst part that this happened on the day of my interview. Since I technically did not wash my length for a week, it looked and felt like it was not washed for a week. It was disgusting! Thankfully, I managed to gather it into a professionaly looking ponytail and made my bangs look extra fabulous to make up for this. Hopefully, the man interviewing me liked it. ARGHHHHH!

Obviously I will not be doing this again. I am tempted, however, to not condition my crown for a while, because I really liked the result. But the length will be shampooed from now on. So learn from my mistakes and do NOT try this at home =) I am so pissed that this is the only picture I could find that was relevant...lol

Back from Vacay!

If you have been following my Tweets, you know that the Boy and I drove down to Florida for a week and then drove back. You also know that it was a nightmare! 965+ miles in a car down I95 highway sounded marvelous in theory, but in practice it was hard. Driving during the day was OK, but at night it was hell. The roads were not lit very well, very few cars on the road, it was dangerous and mind-numbing... Also, I somehow did not take a single photo during the entire trip. That is so uncharacteristic of me, but there was nothing to photograph. We spent days tanning by the pool and nights watching movies and drinking. It was 100% pure relaxation, something I desperately needed after 3.5 years of being stressed and wound up.

To make up for no-pictures transgression, the Boy and I decided to get a magnet from every state we drove through. We had success in all but one state - Virginia. =/ Everything was closed when we driving through at night and places that were open did not have any magnets. BOOO! So if anyone wants to send me one I'd really appreciate it..lol [no, seriously I'd love you forever!] Here are the little guys together on our fridge.

The bottom left one does not refer to a state, but I got it in Florida so it counts! Neener! It says in Russian "Belly is not from the Beer, it is FOR the beer!" Love it!

Anyhoo, I have not been blogging for a few days, but I was thinking of all of you the entire time. I made some interesting purchases that I have been dying to try and review. Also, I have been majorly inspired by 2 very lovely ladies with awesome hair [Unbeweavable and Oofa] so I have been doing major research. I googled and asked around and found forums and websites with some very valuable info. However, the problem was that many of these forums focus on growing out your hair long, and by long I mean VERY LONG! In order to do that the women focus on having natural, untreated, unstyled, uneverything! That is definitely not what I was looking for. While I admire their quest, I needed info on how to maintain healthy hair while using products and tools like hair dryers and curling-irons. So I had to weed out useless info and find out which tips would work for me and my goals.
I am now armed with TONS of new knowledge that I will test out and share the results with out. So be on the lookout for hair-care posts that will appear whenever I have results of some sort whether positive or negative =)

The Day I Stopped Wearing Make-Up...

Every since I was a little girl I was fascinated by all beauty products. I still remember a time in 3rd grade when my Mom promised me that if I brought home a 5 [an A] she would put nailpolish on my pinky. I brought home seven 5's so she painted all my nails. Sometimes, when she wasn't home I'd stealthily browse through her make-up which she kept in a softmake-up case. I still remember the smell of her blush and her cake mascara, which to me was the epitome of glamour. I couldn't wait for the day I'd be able to use it all.

As I got older I became more of a tomboy. While I got a lot of attention from boys I did so because I was one of them. I climbed trees and races with the best of them and they preferred me over the girly-girls who couldn't bear to get their dresses dirty. In high school I finally began wearing some make-up. I had my black Wet 'n' Wild eyeliner and the brown 90's lipstick. Then the brown was replaced by a frosty lavender, also from Wet 'n' Wild. When I turned 16 the only make-up I wore was mascara and clear roll-on gloss that cost $1 and came in a variety of fruity flavors. Strawberry was my favorite.

It was only in my junior year of college that I embraced the art of cosmetics.
Three weeks before finals I broke out in a weird rash on my face and I was utterly embarrassed about it. A friend, S., suggested that I try Bare Escentuals from Sephora. Upon seeing my reluctance to shell out $60+ she sent me to makeupalley.com to read some reviews. Once I got there I just never left. Bare Escentuals [BE] was just the beginning. After watching the instructional video I wanted more and more stuff.

It also did not help that makeupalley members were oh so knowledgeable about anything and everything. Within 6 months I amassed a collection of make-up that will likely last me until I die. I lusted over the new Dior eyeshadow quints and dutifully saved up for each new MAC collection. I learned many tips and tricks starting from simple primers and ending with complicated contouring techniques. I would wake up 30 minutes earlier just to "put my face on" and I refused to leave the house without foundation, mascara, eyebrows, blush and gloss. Clothes and hair became secondary to me. As far as I was concerned, make-up was all that mattered. And it was all that mattered for me until second year of law school.
First year was still exciting and new, but second year was markedly different. I was involved in a bunch of activities in addition to my classes. I was in school from early morning until late evening and at some point my priority shifted to getting enough sleep. Little by little I would cut down my morning make-up routing in favor of precious extra minutes of sleep. At some point I would be happy if mascara, eyebrows and liner were on. The rest did not matter.

The final blow was dealt when BAR-prep courses began. At that time my interests shifted to nailpolish and fashion and make-up took second seat to those. When prep time came around everything suffered equally. Nails went unpainted for weeks, hair was up in a messy bun, and my uniform was leggins, tee and flip-flops. At the same time make-up disappeared completely.
I still remember the first day I left the house completely naked-faced. The Boy and I overslept and I had 30 minutes to get ready. By the time I ate, got dressed and washed my face there was no time left. Considering that in class I sat all the way in the bac next to my amazing gay friend who thought I was fabulous no matter what, I said "F**K it! and left the house as-is. The act was so liberating that the next day, even though we got up on time, I lounged for an xtra 10 minutes that would normally be taken up by eyeliner and eyelash curler. I felt like a freaking rebel! The trend continued on. I loved the fact that I could rub my tired eyes, rest my cheek on my hand without worrying I smudged something, and sip my coffee without needing to reapply anything. It was so liberating to me! However, even though I loved my new-found freedom, the only thought that was getting me through the BAR process was that in a few days I'll be able to wear heels and make-up. Those were the two things I missed the most. I practically yearned for my MAC fluidlines and my Guerlain bronzer.

Surprisingly, it has been almost a week and I am completely make-up free. My brows no longer required filling because since I became a brunette I just dye them to match so no pencil is needed. The rest I have ignored, even though I dutifully packed my travel arsenal for the vacation. I think the reason I am resisting is because I know that once I start I won't be able to stop. It is ridiculously addicting because let's face it, we all look better with it. So I am making a pact, tomorrow, or actually today, is the day. I will wear mascara, liner and bronzer and enjoy my reintroduction back into the world of made-up. The magical world of pretty shimmery goodness and I know I will love every second of it!

Muse Musings

Today I want to muse about the third category which is "the source of an inspiration." When I hear the word "muse" I instantly think of Edie Sedgwick the troubled muse to Andy Warhol. However, I also think of what we now refer to as "Style Icons." These are the women or men whose style inspires us. Whether the desire is to carbon copy, emulate, or just blog these people stir something inside of us that make us want to create something new. So each and every one of them is a modern day muse to regular people everywhere. And while their effect may not be memorialized in paintings or products, to us their influence is tremendous though personal.
So let's begin... After a thorough examination of many of my favorite blogs I saw a clear muse pattern emerging. Even though all these bloggers have a unique personal style they all seem to be inspired by the same people.

First in terms of popularity is Audrey Hepburn.

The petite doe-eyed beauty captured America's heart and solidified her status as America's Sweetheart after portraying Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." So it is no surprise that numerous bloggers whether they prefer Rick Owens or Boho-chic clothes list her as their primary inspiration. Since I have never seen any of her movies *gasp* I could not understand how she can inspire such a diverse group of people. To find my answer I went to my friend L. who is a huge fan and here is what she had to say... "It's not her style of clothing in particular that inspires people, it is her attitude. She is a girly girl who loves all things pretty. She makes it OK to enjoy clothes, make-up and hair. Looking at her makes it acceptable to indulge in those things that many consider utterly frivolous. Whether it is Balmain or the GAP as long as it brings smile to your face and makes you feel glamourous then Audrey would approve." After this superb explantion I am running to Blockbuster and getting some of her movies fo'sho'! I want someone to tell me it is OK to love lipgloss and shoes =)

Next up are the millionaire [or is it billionaire] duo - The Olsens.

Even though I still cherish the memories of them playing the adorable Michelle Tanner on "Full House," it is clear that they have grown and became the powerhouse of everything that is fabulous. With deep pockets and an amazing eye for trends that have not even been thought of the twins have become the source of inspiration for many of us, myself included. While the "bag-lady" looks are not quite my thing, there are many other looks that I completely and utterly drool over. I remember the first time one of the twins was spotted wearing the Balenciaga boots that many seasons later are still on our wishlists. A recent picture with an Alexander Wang studded bag caused another frenzy and a rush to pre-order. As constant staples at every fashion show that matters, they are in the know and right there in the trenches. Finally, their own line Elizabeth and James is absolutely stunning! If i had the $$ I would get almost every piece they produce. Basically I agree with the bloggers, MK+A are truly Style Icons.

The third muse was a little harder to find. Many bloggers, myself included, look to models for inspiration. Everyone has their own favorite, but one stands out in the blogosphere -- Erin Wasson.

She became a household face through her work as a Victoria's Secret model, but she became a blogger inspiration through her no holds barred style. Her style is a combination of rocker chic, 90's grunge, urban hippy, with chic accessories galore. She is a runway favorite and BFF with amazing desginers like Alexander Wang. She recently launched her own line of clothing with a California brand RCVA.
While I like her attitude, I would not consider her a muse or even a source of inspiration. To me she just does not have any glamour, and I think a little is always needed. Even when MK Olsen is dressed as a bag lady, there is something special ang glamorous in her look. Erin has never captured that. In a way she is sort of anti-fashion, and that I can't get on board with. I just can't get on board with anything remotely hipster no matter how open minded I try to be and to me Erin is a hipster.

Now let's talk about MY muse! While there are many who inspire me, including a lot of blogger, when I think of "muse" she is the first to come to mind. Did you guess? Kate Moss of course!

While some of her life choices are not so great, the woman can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. No matter what comes her way she moves through it without batting an eyelash and looking fabulous. She looks equally amazing in a ball gown as she does in shorts and moccasins. Everything she puts on is an instant trend and that does no seem to faze her one bit. With every photo she is like a different person. Her face literally transforms depending on the campaign she is doing. And we can't forget that she is one of the longest working AND shortest supermodels ever. That is quite a feat in the industry and it just goes to show that she truly has something special to be able to captivate our interest for so long.

DIY Beauty

As women are we blessed with soft skin, enticing curves, and the right to wear pretty shoes and have the doors opened for us. However, we also need to maintain ourselves CONSTANTLY! Some maintenance is fun like make-up, pedicures and clothes, but others are tedious and at times costly, but unfortunately very necessary. One of those is shaving/waxing. Since I am naturally a fair blonde my hair is too light to get laser treatments. I got numerous opinions and they all said it would not work =/ Thankfully, I inherited my mother's genes when it comes to har growth. I have fairly light hair and it is not thick and grows fairly slowly, so I do not have to shave that often. However, since I started taking Biotin to facilitate nail growth my hair has been out of control. I don't wax [except eyebrows] because I cannot stand the mandatory "growing out" period. I HATE hair and I wish I did not have any below my eyebrows. I even dislike hairy guys. I actually dumped a very sweet guy after seeing his very hairy chest..ack! The Boy has no chest hair, back hair, or stomach hair and I love that. Sorry hairy men, but that is just not my thing. But, I digress....

Since I do not wax I have to shave or use depilatory cream. While very effective, the shaving causes bumps and ingrowns which are probably as unattractive as the hair itself. My eyebrow lady recommended Bikini Zone which is extremely effective, but kinda pricey. Others rave about TendSkin, which is as expensive as some of shirts. Thankfully, I know a homemade TendSkin recipe that is cheap, effective and smells better than the original. So I wanted to share it with you, my lovelies =)

Here is what you'll need:

Uncoated Aspirin [I use generic CVS brand]

70% Rubbing Alcohol

Witch Hazel [Any brand is fine]

Once you have the ingredients follow these easy steps:

1. Crush 18 tablets of uncoated aspirin
2. Dissolve these in 5.5oz of 70% rubbing alcohol
3. Crush 8 tablets of uncoated aspirin
4. Dissolve these in 2.5 oz of Witch Hazel
5. Now combine both solution in one dish/bottle. Aspirin tends to settle on the bottom so shake before each use.
6. APPLY once a day after waxing or shaving. You can also spot-treat random ingrown hairs at any time. Just apply the solution directly on the hair and it should be find in 2-3 days at most.

I have been using it every time after I shave my bikini area and it has worked amazingly. Most importantly it cost me around $5 and will last much longer than the tiny TendSkin bottle. I suggest you give it a try and unless you're allergic I can pretty much guarantee it will work and you'll never go back. If any of you try it please let me know how you like it =)

I am finally done with the BAR exam and honestly I am empty. The whole experience took a lot out of me and it was a rollercoaster of emotions and physical exertion. I truly saw a darkness I never wanted to get near, but I think it was a character-building experience for me. I truly hope that I never have to go through this again, but if I must I know I am strong enough to handle it.

Anyhoo, on to the relevant things. I am thinking of taking the blog into a slightly different direction. When I started it I wanted to blog about about beauty, then I quickly shifted to fashion. I still want to address those topics, but I also want more. I specifically picked out a name for the blog that does not pigeonhole me into any category. I mean I am Pinky and these are my Files. So since it is my blog MY blog I can discuss whatever I want. What I am trying to say is that in addition to the current contentI think I will get more personal. I want to discuss things that urk me, things that make me happy, things I just want to talk about. Basically, I just want to write more. I willstill post outfits, add more beauty reviews, discuss fashion, etc. But I will also include more of my thoughts. Hopefully, this will be a change for the better and the only way to know is through your comments. Soooo, let me know what you think!! Even though it is MY blog I truly value the opinions of my readers =)

Now that I've stated my piece I am off to sleep. I am extremely exhausted and tomorrow the Boy and I will be driving from NYC to Florida. It is a serious undertaking, but I consider it an adventure. Hopefully, I won't end up in some slasher flick situation. Yes, this is one of my irrantional fears. I will be tweeting throughout and I have my camera so I will be updating from the trip. Every New Year people make a list of resolutions for the new year: lose weight, quit smoking, etc. I never made them because I could not stick to the plan since I was so busy with school. Now that I am studying for the BAR everything has been put aside. I stopped going to the gym, stopped my diet, lost touch with many many dear friends. So I am making a list of resolutions that I plan on doing after it is all done and over. So here is the list:

1. Go back to the GYM

2. Go back on South Beach Diet

3. Reconnect with every good friend

4. Blog more regularly

5. Organize the closet

6. Take the time to walk on the boardwalk and enjoy the breeze

7. Learn to cook new things

8. Check out local restaurants I always drive past

9. Learn basic sewing skills

10. Go on a rollercoaster

11. Take better care of my skin and hair

12. Learn to make sangria

13. Finish a jigsaw puzzle

14. Read some good books

I am so excited already to try any and all of these things. I feel like there has been a dark cloud over my life for the past 3.5 years and I can't wait for it to leave and for the Sun to come out =)

I haven't been posting much because I have been in "study clothes" 99% of the time. My uniform is leggins, flops/flats, scarf and some sort of long tee. I just don't care about dressing up anymore until the BAR exam is done and over with. But yesterday I decided to switch it up a bit and put some effort into it.

This was taken after classes so please excuse the tired look and messy hair.

Obviously Sophie wanted to participate in the action! And the tee is soooo cleavage-y. It's is very conservative otherwise so I love that the neckline offsets the frump and makes it my favorite shirt.

What happens when you forget to charge your camera battery? Crappy pics! So just a warning that you're about to see bad pics of a beautiful dress. *le sigh* As a shorty it is very hard to find a maxi dress that does not need to be hemmed. So far I managed to find 2. One black one you saw in the vacations pictures and now this one that is simply stunning. I also truly adore the way maxi dresses make me feel - like a feminine floaty Greek goddess. To me they are truly the sexiest type of dresses.

The sun is in my eyes hence the stupid chin-too-high squinty look.

The City of Atlantic

To celebrate our freedom the Boy and I joined a couple of friends on a trip to Atlantic City. If you do go there my advice is to head straight to the Borgata if you want the true Las Vegas feeling. Caesars and the rest are icky and the crowd is kinda awful and dirty. I have yet to check out Harrahs and the new Trump Marina so I can't comment on those. I had a great time, I just wish I did not get so sick there. I have had a fever of 102 for the past 3 days. BOOO. The Boy got sick there too. He finally went back to work today, poor thing.

Last night the Boy and I went out to celebrate him finishing law school. We met up with a few friends at a bar in New Jersey and had yummy margaritas. Such a relaxing evening. Everything I am wearing is new. This entire week was spent shopping with my mommy and filled with a lot of DIY projects in between. I actually went shopping all day yesterday so when it came time to go out I chose to wear flats because I was so tired from walking all day.

With Finals done the Boy and I went out to celebrate. We had some amazing, but overpriced, sushi and then went dancing to a local lounge/club. The best part was that I was finally able to wear my new Guess? shoes that have been lying in my closet since Valentine's Day. Please excuse the pissy face -- I was kinda tired after all the exams, but the Boy insisted that we need to celebrate. I am glad he won because I had tons of fun.

Geez, my thighs are so muscular I didn't even realize. I gotta ease up on the lunges!

Golden Girls is truly one of my favorite shows. I used to watch it with my mom and it is always on when I need some cheering up. I know every episode and love every character. That is why it truly saddened me when Bea Arthur passed away yesterday. I hope she knows how loved she was and how many fans are thinking of her.

Trying something New

I have long admired the look of men's tees, boyfriend jeans and high heels on other bloggers. However, I felt it was out of my comfort zone. But this weekend I finally gave in and decided to try it myself. Since I do not own any men's tees I did the next best thing and went into The Boy's closet. I chose a waffle long sleeved tee with a fleur de lis design on the back. I was pretty pleased with myself when The Boy walked into the room and gasped in horror. He did not like it. I was brokenhearted at first, but chose to bravely wear it anyway. After all, if it was up to The Boy, I would only wear tight dresses and mini skirts...lol. As the night progressed I decided that I love the look. I was warm, comfortable and still sexy =) But you can judge for yourselves:

My kitty is a total model-wannabe. She saw that pictures were being taken so she obviously wanted to be in the shot as usual. Excuse the silly look on my face.

Very important P.S. The next night The Boy went out with his boys and here is a text message he sent me "U r definitely up to fashion :) There r at least 2 girls in guy's shirts, leggings and a belt and of course heels." HA!! I feel totally validated and he feels like a butt. Mission Accomplished!

D.I.Y.

I am a HUGE crafts person. I love to draw, sew, knit, embroider, you name it. I am not particular skilled at any of these, but I truly love the process. When I was little, I used to cut my dolls' hair, sew their clothes and build them homes. I even had a calendar that had a different project each month. You would use the calendar page to cut out shapes and glue them into a box-shaped animal. At the end of the year you would take all the animals you made and string them up into a complicated chandelier type piece. Such fun! I still get excited when I see glue and glitter and scissors and thread, but lately I just never have the time to sit down with a project. But it does not mean I never will. So this past year I have been buying and putting aside random things that I plan on sewing onto boring pieces in my closet like buttons, studs, zippers, etc. I also made a separate drawer for every piece of clothing that I plan on shredding, cutting, embellishing and basically somehow altering. I am literally itching in anticipation of starting the projects and I will obviously post each and every one with the tutorials in tow.
In the meantime, I have discovered the most amazing blog called Carbon Couture which is filled with D.I.Y. ideas and tutorials. I already bookmarked at least 5 things I plan on trying. So check it out for yourself, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Oopsie...I lied!

I know I said the last post was my last vacation installment, but I realized I had a few more things to show you. In my defense it is not a vacation outfit post, so I only "half-lied." Either way, I think you might enjoy this =)

First, let me tell you what a ditz I am! Since I had to pack in a frenzy I completely forgot two extremely essential items: sunglasses and beach bag. I was about to cry when I realized what I have done, but then The Boy suggested and obvious solution: buy new ones! The resort shop had a huge selection of cheap sunglasses. Many were obvious fakes with labels on them. I did not bother looking at them at all. However, these were perfect. Great shape, funky design and NO LABEL!! Wheeee! At a whopping $10 these were a lifesaver for the duration of the vacation AND cute enough to wear in NYC.

Beach bag was bought at the beach-stand. I love it because it is small enough to carry at night, but also fits all my beach essentials minus the towel of course. It is waterproof on the inside and includes a great pouch which fit the key cards, money, keys, and ID's. It is also a great souvenir since it has the name of the island embroidered on =) I am especially proud of it because I talked the lady down to $5 from $15 and I SUCK at haggling.

My favorite purchase was this seashell ring. It is perfectly summery and funky enough for NYC. While not as cool as the knuckle ring I am still looking for, it is a nice temporary solution.

This is the view of our hotel from the Marina. Our resort has about 5-7 hotels and this is the one we stayed in.

The view from an amazing French restaurant we had lunch in while visiting St. Martin. The food was delicious and the view truly spectacular.

Our bill came in this amusing toucan bird box. While silly, it is necessary because the wind is kinda crazy unpredictable by the water.

The lizard of the resort. The poor thing desperately wanted to just chill out in the sun, but was rudely interrupted by yours truly in an attempt to take a picture. We dubbed him Pete and managed to take a number of pics of him [we assume it is a HE, but we'll never know.] The people laying out poolside were amused as I was running after him yelling "Pete. PETE! Stop Pete and let me take a pictureeeee!" In my defense I had about 4 pina coladas in me at that point and did not really care =)

Finally, this was one of the books I read while sunbathing. As a grad student I prefer my vacation reads to be mindless and indulgently girly and entertaining. If you like such books then I recommend this one for sure. Not as great as "The Devil Wears Prada" written by the same author, but still engulfing enough to read in under 2 days. [I would have finished sooner but I was taking breaks to swim, eat, sleep and go out.]

When Fashion Leads to Prison

I was so disturbed by THIS article that I just had to write about it. A 16 year old from Queensbridge here in NYC was sent to prison for numerous acts of shoplifting. I find stealing to be one of the worst crimes one can commit. It is not murder, rape or molestation, but it is very much high up there for me. I just can't understand why someone feels they can take something that is not theirs.
Anyways, what struck me about the article is not the kid's desire to steal, but the motivation behind it. The kid, Kevahn, said that he felt like a "somebody" when he was wearing the high end labels he stole. It gave his life meaning and his person a character. He wanted to be best dressed and he felt important because he was wearing thousands of dollars worth of clothes every day. To me that is horrifying. I love couture and high end clothes as much as any girl, but I will never let clothes define me. Fashion is the ability to work with what you can afford, creating stunning looks with what you got. It is easy to look good when you have an unlimited budget. The trick is to make it work on a budget. Labels can be good, but label alone does not make an outfit.
The saddest thing is that Kevahn is extremely knowledgeable about fashion. He knows the sizes, designers behind labels, new trends, and more. He is definitely a budding fashionista, albeit one who is consumed by his passion to the point where theft is the only way he thinks he can look good. A kid with a 127 IQ should know better. It is so sad because he has so much potential and yet he spiraled down to a prison sentence. Let this be a lesson to some. It is normal to desire, but when the desire overcomes you the way it did Kevahn, there is a definite problem.

Sorry for the rant, but as you can tell I am deeply saddened by the story and wanted to speak out.

Final Vacay Blast...

Even though I have tons of vacation pictures [279 to be exact] I will only bore you for one more post so I can get back to posting things I actually wear in real life. So this is the last installment of St. Maarten outfits =)

This is taken at the Mall in St. Martin. St. Martin is the French part of the island and has amazing shopping and delicious food. The Boy and I actually stayed at the dutch side called St. Maarten. Iffy shopping, but great Casinos! So this is the "expensive" mall and it is still Duty Free so a bit cheaper than the US prices. It had 2 stories and about 6-8 stores one of which sold cheap costume jewelry. All I can say is that the flea markets were sooo much better!

That same night we went to a steakhouse, and then a club near by. The club was called "An Alley" and the Boy and I were laughing at how it might make a bad pick up line. "Hey, so you want to go to an Alley?" I can see how a guy can get slapped for suggesting that. LOL
Anyways, this dress is one of my favorites. It is long, soft, and so feminine. I always feel like a princess in it. Not too great for dancing though, but who cares! I did have to hold the skirt down at times because the wind was trying to blow it up as we were taking pictures.

All the Pretty Flowers

During the vacay the Boy and I wanted to check out some beachfront bar. So we walked from our hotel and followed the signs to the place. We ended up walking for a good 30 minutes until we realized the signs were for cars. If we would have just walked on the beach it was literally 2 minutes away. The time was not wasted though because we saw some pretty flowers and took some great silly pictures.

I have been back for a few days, but I was not able to post because I had an overwhelming amount of things to do. That's what sucks about vacations, you get to relax, but then you come back to piled up work...ack! Anyhoo, the next few posts will have vacation posts. I am thinking of dying my hair brown. Basically a chocolate brown with a very subtle red tinge. Like the red will be barely visible in the sun, and is only there for depth. You all have seen my pictures for a while now, so what do you think?

All Boots and No Rain...

The weather predictions for today were "Rain ALL Day." The announcers were telling everyone to wear raincoats and to not forget their umbrellas. So I planned an outfit with my rainboots, packed my umbrella and by the time I left my house at 1:00pm it barely rained. I got some pathetic drizzle for like 5 minutes and that was it. Thankfully, I adore my wellies so much that I was not too upset. They are so bright and cheery that they just make me happy, and they are comfy too!

Sneaky-Sneaky

I am sure many of you remember those sneakers with rubber high heels. Many girls wore in my neighborhood when I was a kid, and I thought it was so cool at the time. However, they quickly went out of style and were dubbed "Tacky." Well it seems they are now making a comeback. There was a page spread in NYLON magazine showcasing some of them from various designers. While they certainly look comfortable, I just can't picture myself wearing them. But to be fair, I do not like sneakers to begin with, so I didn't expect to love the heeled version.

Here are some examples:

This one is by Sergio Rossi for Puma. It comes in a variety of colors and retails for a whopping $750! For that price I can get a pair of real sneakers AND some Louboutins, yikes!

The one above is from AmiClubWear. Much cheaper and not that different =)

Finally, these are from Skechers. These are actually pretty cute because the heel is fairly low and blends into the shoe, thus making them look graceful. If I had to, this would be the pair I would choose.

Ladies and Gentlemen I am on the hunt for this ring

and I need your help. The picture above is a knuckle ring by Elizabeth and James and the ring retails for $155. I am convinced I can find a much cheaper version. I scoured sites like Forever21, I went through all of China Town and nothinggggg. I remember when every street vendor had it, and now it is nowhere to be found =( So if any of you know where I can get one for $25 or under, I would greatly appreciate any info. Thanks in Advance!

Don't be Cross with Me!

Ever since I was 5 years old I have always worn a cross around my neck. It is very tiny and has a lot of sentimental value to me. I never thought of it as a fashion accessory until now. Made popular by Madonna in the 80's the cross is now making a strong comeback. Many designers are either incorporating it into their clothes, or accessorizing their pieces with cross jewelry.

The number one fan is Ramona Singer, the loudmouthed, but fun cast member of Real Housewives of New York City [my guilty pleasure!]. This season she wears a different cross in every episode in order to promote her line of jewelry TrueFaithJewelry. Here is a picture of her modeling her product on the website:

Her pieces are very reasonably priced for sterling silver jewelry. So if you do not mind supporting Ramona's spa habits, I would certainly recommend you check out the line.

The trendy and pricey ElizabethAndJames, the lovechild of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, also has a number of pieces in their Spring 2009 line which incorporate the cross. Their version is more funky, and is likely to appeal more to the younger fashionistas than Ramona's line. The line has rings, bracelets, earrings and more. All the pieces have a vintage feel, and are slightly reminiscent of Madonna circa the Like a Virgin tour. Yet, they are so well designed that they will wear perfectly with any modern style.

I personally embrace the trend. I love the look of crosses, and I think they can easily transform any outfit. A preppy dress can get a bit more edgy with dangling cross earrings. And shiny leggings and white tee are just begging for a cross on a long chain to complete the look. However, there is definitely a part of me that cherishes the image of the cross as something that is not a trend, but rather a symbol of faith and not a silly accessory. Either way, this does not stop me from wanting the beauty below from J.R.Dunn [if only the site would list the price!!!! helloooo]

Chirstian Siriano for Payless

I am a devoted Project Runway fan. I watch every season, every episode and I love it. And I am absolutely in love with Christian Siriano's work. So imagine how psyched I was when I found out he is doing a line of shoes for Payless??? Here is a sneak preview of the collection:

I absolutely adore the designs and the color palette. They are so versatile and yet can honestly can be called a "statement shoe."
Many, including this article, say they are reminiscent of Rodarte from a few seasons ago. However, being in the group of those who cannot afford Rodarte, I am simply elated! Platforms, conical heels, spikes, oh my! The only thing raining on my parade is the Payless quality. Let's face it, they are not known for comfort. However, for styles this hot, I WILL be in line for the pretties. Forget comfort, there are SPIKES involved!!!
Collection is scheduled to appear in stores this fall 2009, and the prices range from $25-$45. Definitely something to look forward to =)

SNOW DAY!!!

I have never thought that 2 words can make me sooooo happy, but the email letting me know it was a SNOW DAY did just that! We had 8-10 inches of snow today and I was as happy as a clam =) The Boy and I went sledding in the afternoon. It is amazing how fun can it be sledding on a laminated carboard box [we were not prepared and did not have a snow sled purchased]. All the 7-10 year olds were making fun of us until we showed them the laws of physics. They were shocked when they saw that adults on a cardboard can go farther than they on their waxes boards. That shut them up for good LOL. This was honestly the most fun I have had in years. Sledding down like a kid, without a care in the world, snow in your sleeves and UGGS keeping you warm is honestly my definition of happiness. The Boy and I had an amazing workout going up and down that hill. Finally, some lady had pity on use and offered her son's foam sled for our use. The fun went up 100%. The only problem was we had to heavily break as to avoid landing into an unfrozen lake. But soooooo awesome, nevertheless!!! I got to feel like a kid again, if only for an hour. Totally worth it! Next Saturday we are planning on going to some mountain. The Boy is planning to ski, while I just want to go foam sledding some more =)

No outfit pictures obviously because I was not dressed to be cute, but to be warm. But I just HAD to share my excitement =)

The Boy and I decided against wearing red this year and good thing we did! The entire restaurant was RED. Every girl was wearing a red top of some sort, and even some guys joined in the "redness." The Boy wore an orange sweater, while I chose purple for whatever reason.

I think my cat is fame-obsessed and is determined to make a cameo in every picture I take at home =)

But this year V-day is on a weekend and our anniversary is on a Thursday, so we are celebrating both today.

Texture Twist

The weather has been getting warmer lately, so I finally braved wearing a skirt again. I also wanted to play around with textures a little and here is what I came up with:

I wore my ski-bunny boots outside, but forgot to take pics with them. Granted I don't mix patterns and textures as well as Blair Waldorf does, but I am still very pleased with how it turned out. It's like a Catholic school girl with a twist =)

This past weekend we went out to a bar with the Boy and his sister. I decided to take my new scarf out for some fun, and fun we had!

Yes, the sweater has see-through stripes on the side and the body, but since I am wearing a dark tank underneath you can't see those. A man saw me taking pictures and asked if I could take a picture of his shoe. He apparently takes pictures of his shoes in every city he visits and has never taken on in NYC. I am going to email it to him later, but I just wanted to share. The other boot is mine =)

Absent and Confused

I know I promised more pictures and more consistent blogging, but honestly, I haven't had any new material for a while. The weather is so cold that I had to forgo being cute and pull out my warmest, and ugliest sweaters just to not freeze while waiting for the bus. Also the influx of snow made me resort to UGGS. I have warm heeled boots, but at night the snow turns to ice and concerned for my safety, since I am not the most graceful person ever, I chose to leave my heels at home. I have also been wearing a lot of business suits lately and that just depresses me completely.

In order to get some inspiration I have been religiously checking out magazines and other blogs and have sort of got myself into a fashion crisis. On one hand I have a sort of vintagy-punky side to me which wants to emulate Erin Wasson and the Olsens. On the other I drool over the crisp and feminine looks of J.Crew and Anthropologie, and of course I also adore couture and labels. So right now I have been trying to figure out how to combine all my sides sides and come up with a wardrobe that truly represents who I am. Surprisingly, this is a very hard task. For starters, I need pieces that compliment every style, and accessories, shoes and bags that go with everything. Though hard, it is totally doable and somewhat fun. Granted it would be easier if I had Paris Hilton's shopping budget, but I am making do with what I can.

One of the first accessories I got was this scarf from Hot Topic.

I originally went in to get suspenders, but the scarf was beckoning me from the hook. It is a trifecta of all my fashions sides: pink -- preppy, skulls -- pinky, and it is an Alexander McQueen knock-off -- couture/labels! I just had to have it. =)

It is relatively thin, so I will have to wear it when it gets a little warmer and I can walk around without heavy cashmere scarves. For now I am just taking it as a sign that my mission is not futile and I can figure out how to balance my wardrobe. Anyways, enough of my rantings and here are some close-ups of the scarf

Cozy Secrets

So the weather in NYC has been atrocious! Freezing chills and snow mixed with ice cold rain which freezes in the evening. Therefore, my outfits have been geared more towards keeping warm and less towards pretty. Since I have no new outfits to post I wanted to share with you two of my favorite things to keep me happy during this weather.

First, is Herbacin hand lotion:

Mine is the all green tube with the yellow corner [middle of picture]. Herbacin offers a variety of amazing Chamomile products to soother various areas of your body. The hand cream I use contains glycerin, and keeps my hands baby soft all winter long. I usually use it before bed, but carry with me in case I have an emergency. The cream absorbs very quickly, has barely any scent, and lasts a long time. You can feel the protective barrier on your skin, without it being greasy at all. LOVE!

My second secret is UGG Slippers. Yes, they are very pricey [for slippers], but thankfully the Boy splurged on them for my New Years present and they are sooooo worth it!

I have them in Chestnut color - goes with everything and does not get dirty at all. The slippers are lined with shearling and I don't have to wear socks even in the coldest weather [ I still do sometimes, but I am warm without them anyway]. They are very comfortable and do not make your feet sweat. The premise behind UGG footwear is that it does not make your feet warmer, it just maintains temperature. The result is that your feet are warm, but not too hot at any given time =) To me these feel like true luxury. I am so happy with mine I even got the Boy his own pair and he lives in them. It is so wrong to be so excited about ugly footwear [they ARE ugly] but I do not care =)

Last night the Boy and his friend had a joint birthday party. I wore a silky red dress which was perfect, but the weather was not agreeing with my choice of clothing. Thankfully, at the last minute I decided to put on a wrap sweater, otherwise I would have froze to death.

So it has been ridiculously freezing in NYC. After waiting for the bus for 8 minutes I felt my brain cells starting to freeze and mind you I was wearing a warm hat. During such cold days it is hard to be fashionable when all you want is to wear the warmest items you own. For such days I have a go-to outfit that is not only warm but also is pretty cute and comfy. Those boots make me feel like a total snow-bunny, and the wedge heel gives me that extra height I desperately need. And, YES, they are very warm =)

We were just going to hang out at a friend's house so I had zero make-up on. That is why I am covering my face =)

Polish Pretties!

So I have no fashion for you guys today, because I have not dressed up for a week [I know it is scary, but I am on vacay so ha! ]. But I wanted to share with you some of the pretty polishes I acquired recently.

First up is my haul from CarolynNewYork. Carolyn grew up in NYC and all her polishes are named after NYC locations and things unique to the Big Apple.

FingerPaints Red Marzipan -- a red duochrome packed with glitter. Very festive, and is a great polish to own if you have been looking or cult favorite OPI La Boheme. Not twins, but close enough to tie you over for now =)

Very Belated SAKS Haul

So as many of you probably know Saks 5th Ave had a huuuge sale right before Thanksgiving. I missed the first wave, but went in for the second part and scored big! I mainly focused on bags and shoes. Shoes were a let down because all the good ones were gone during first wave unfortunately. But I did pick up 2 bags and a wallet and I love them all to pieces!

First up is Kooba Carly hobo bag. It has a zip pocket and 2 open pockets inside. The closure is a magnetic snap and it is pretty roomy. In the picture I have a book, make-up bag, water bottle and a ton of random things inside and there is still room! And the leather is so soft and supple like buttah. Cost me $150 down from $625 =)

This is my new wallet. I still love my old one but it was becoming a bit ragged after 5 years so luckily I was able to get this one from Marc by Marc Jacobs. I practically snatched it out of the associate's hands as she brought them down to the sale bin. They were gone within seconds. The only downside is that it does not have a clear pocket for a picture of the Boy, but for $50 who can complain =)

Finally, this is my other Marc by Marc Jacobs purchase: Totally Turnlock mini Quinn bag. The green shade is a bit out of my comfort zone, but it will be perfect for spring! The bag has a flap closure, 2 outside pockets and a huge zip pocket inside. The leather is even more buttery than the Kooba, but the design itself is not the best because I can never get anything out unless I set it on the table or something. However, it is so cute that I still love it. It was $100 down from $398.

Lip Balm Extravaganza!

As part of my winter series I had to make a post about lip balm. In the winter my lips get the worst of it and usually need some serious help. I am a self-proclaimed balm addict and have one in every winter coat, and about 4 in my purses. So here is a guide for you guys. A few are my personal favorites and I can vouch for them. The others are favorites of the ladies at makeupalley so they are also highly recommended because beleive you me, these ladies probably tried them ALL.

So here it goes:

My picks:

Caudalie balm: available at Sephora, and Bath and Body Works. Light scent, very moisturizing, non-greasy, silky smooth

Lypsyl: a little heavier due to beeswax, pleasantly light coconut scent, very cheap [often free at drugstores with coupon/rebates], lasts through coffee.

Softlips: very smooth, comes in variety of scents/flavors, SPF 15 protection, conveniently slim tube, disappears due to drink/cigarette. Available at most drugstores.

Makeupalley Picks:

Smith's Rosebud Salve: classic, light, smells like roses, but now comes in strawberry too! Packaging is in a tin, which I dislike, but a very generous amount included. Feels like vaseline, which is both good [moisturising, lasts long] and bad [greasy]. Available at Sephora and drugstore.com

Aveeno Intensice Relief: never tried it so will not comment. However, recommended by quite a number of makeupalley ladies, and other Aveeno products work well for me and the boyfriend, so I can safely assume the lip balm is good too. Available at most drugstores.

Nivea Lip Care: Comes in variety of scents including: Milk & Honey, Rose, Aloe, Regular. Thick tube with a lot of product. Heavy/waxy feel on lips, but last quite a while. I used to get these in Russia, but now they are widely available at most US drugstores.

Blistex Complete Moisture: I have not tried this particular Blistex, but the brand has been a favorite of mine a while ago [I have since developed balm A.D.D. and have moved on], but it is another makeupalley favorite, so if I was stuck without a tube of balm, I would definitely purchase this one just based on the recommendations alone. Available at most drugstores.

Kiehl's: SPF 15 protection, wonderful scent, do not really like the squeeze tube or the price, but if you can afford it the product is very nice, as are most Kiehl's products. Available at all Kiehl's boutiques and counters.

Korres Natural Lip Butter: the only reason I do not own this is because I have about 12 balms I use right now. However, I always end up playing with this balm when I am at Sephora. The scent is amazing [comes in 5 scents] and all [except clear] are fairly well tinted. So if you cannot go with bare lips all winter, then this is the balm for you. I highly recommend it, though it is not as moisturizing as my beloved Caudalie, nor can I vouch for the lasting effect at this point. The only downside is the tin design. But this is likely to be the next balm I purchase.

These are the top picks and I hope you can find one that suits your needs the best. I would like to remind you that these are for preventative/protective care of the lips. Once your lips become seriously chapped I truly recommend Aquaphor. It is a form of vaseline given to cancer patients for their raw post-chemo skin. So imagine how well it would work on plain chapped lips. Read more about my love for Aquaphor HERE. If the chapped lips are bleeding and or are seriously hurting then PLEASE contact a dermatologist right away. He may prescribe something specific to target your problem.

I was not one of the brave ones who ventured out to H&M today in hopes of snagging a part of the collection. A part of me did not love any item, and another part of me is still reliving the pain of Woodbury Commons Outlet Mall during Black Friday 2 years ago [all I will say is that it took my mom 2! hours in line just to pay for a skirt, and the Gucci store was literally mobbed!]. Plus I have a paper due. Basically, I had no reason to be out there today, but I would love to hear any stories from those who went =) So feel free to post your personal experiences or any stories you heard.

Belated Halloween Costume

We ended up staying in on Halloween and playing board games with friends. My friends don't like dressing up, so I did not bother making an elaborate costume. But I couldn't totally waste the opportunity so I made it from what I already had around the house. I went as the evil vines from the movie "The Ruins." For those who have not seen it, some kids go exploring in Mexico and end up on a ruin which is covered in evil vines which get into their wounds and eventually kill them. I had vines painted on my face with make-up, but I won't be showing that. So here it is -- homemade and yet I love it!

As you can see I added a long sleeved shirt because it was too cold to run around in a tank top...Thankfully, it matched the booties. My favorite part is the tights. They are by Urban Outfitters and are a knock-off of Chanel tights [$150], but 10x cheaper. I thought they were too funky at first but decided to try them out. Surprisingly, boyfriend loved them!! And I think they are awesome. Here are the Chanel's for comparison:

Winter De-Frump 3

Continuing along with my theme I decided to look for fun winter accessories to go with my new winter stuff. Standing on the bus stop for 20 minutes convinced me that I need a hat. I also realized that my beloved scarves are too thin for the winter chill so I decided to find a thicker one to rotate with my prized Burberry cashmere one.

On the way back home the same day I decided to take the Ferry and since I arrived early I went into the gift shop and OMG found a scarf! The price was more than acceptable at $3 and the pattern was too fun to resist. Here it is:

Boyfriend thinks it looks like a Nascar flag, but I love the checkerboard pattern and most importantly I have not seen anyone wear anything like it!

The hat I ordered from Urban Outfitters for $5. I love that it is loose so it won't give me hat hair. I also love the structured visor which is amazingly helpful when driving. It is also breathable and goes with everything. Here is a pic:

Winter De-Frump 2

Since my lovely coat is forcing me to lose the winter clothing bulk, I went to J.Crew to see if any cute sweaters were on sale. Much to my surprise the sale section had an extra 50% off sale prices and had some things actually left in XS. Even though I am on a no-buy, I could not pass up these deals, so I got these two beauties:

This is the glass button merino cardi. The description claims the buttons are made from genuine Czech glass. I personally do not care, but it is a nice touch of sparkle. The color is bright, but not overpowering. The cardi itself is fairly thin, but very warm. Love! And with all the discounts I paid about $29 weeeee!

This is the second cardi I got. Actually, the picture is of the style, but not of the exact color. Mine is a mix of cream and navy and I will post some real life pictures later in the week. This is a cashmere, wool, silk blend is sooooo unbelievably soft and comfortable. The buttons are seriously sparkly and make me think of ice =) How very wintery and snowy. This on cost $29 as well.

My mission de-frump is shaping up nicely at this point. My hoodies are going to hate me for neglecting them, but I do not care =)

Winter De-Frump!

New York winters are terrible. The weather changes from pleasant 60's to 40's literally overnight, and every year I am totally UN-prepared for it. More importantly I really do not try. I have an arsenal of sweaters, scarves and long socks, and I do get a pair of UGGS every year, but other than that I am lost. The worst thing is that I have no desire to dress up at all. Hence the boring OOTD's below. The trouble for me is that it is freezing outside so I need to bundle up while waiting for the bus. Then the bus is boiling, so I immediately take all these bundles off. Then back onto the freezing street. The worst part is that my school has a different temperature in EVERY room. My morning classroom is very warm, my afternoon classroom forces me to wrap a scarf around my shoulders so as not to freeze. So, these conditions are not very fashion-friendly, and leave me uninspired to say the least. But the blog is helping me to force myself to change my winter ways since I have to post pictures. So I am hoping by the end of this winter I will be a snowy fashion maven! LOL.

In order to start my quest I decided to put away my trusty puffer coat and go for something more feminine and stylish -- a wool coat. I posted about the coat here, but I wanted to tell the story of its purchase. Also, since it was delivered to my parents' house I did not get a chance to try it on until late last week.
So here is the story: I went on the hunt online and was floored by the options and the price tags! Every coat I liked was over $300 and I refused to even look at places like Old Navy for a quality coat. You know I like Old Navy, but not for coats that I want to last more than one season. I started stalking sales on every website, asking for rec's from friends and other bloggers and was literally stumped. My dream coat was by Sonia&Kyo which retail for much more than I was willing to spend. But I was enthralled with the stand up collars and large buttons. Finally, I stumbled upon a coat by GUESS? by Marciano on Nordstrom.com. I used to wear Guess? when I was in highschool, and lately their clothes have turned into tacky poo. I don't even go into the store when at the mall. So imagine my surprise when I saw a perfect coat from a much disliked brand and at a whopping $128. After interrogating everyone I knew about the coat, I decided to bite the bullet. An old giftcard also helped sway me towards purchasing. 4 days later it arrived and I am in love!

It has the stand up collar I was dreaming about, big buttons, a rich gray color, and hidden side pockets [the flaps are decorative, the pockets are actually side slits]. And for once in my life I actually dare say that it looks better on me than on the model. [note: it is a bit longer on me, and I had to cuff the sleeves because I am tiny, but the other proportions are suited for a petite]
The waist on it is so defined and slimming. It also makes it impossible to wear bulky sweaters, thus forcing me to avoid hoodies, and the like, and stick to wool cardies making me less frumpy.
The lower part is A-line and makes the coat more girly. So this combination of cinched waist and girly skirt makes me feel so feminine! I never felt feminine during the winter so this is a huuuge step forward for me. It also reminded me to give some brands a second glance once in a while because there may be a gem hidden in the middle of all the mud.

I am sorry I have been slacking off on posting my outfits and other stories. I have a HUUUGE exam on Saturday for which I am not very prepared as I found out yesterday, I also have papers, homework, interview, mailings and so much more annoying, yet necessary things to do. The coat was given to me by my aunt and it is not structured at all. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it is very unique in my opinion and is one of my favorite pieces. And I clearly missed the spot while cleaning the mirror.

Palettes Galore!

So the wonderful thing about October [other than Halloween] is the massive amount of palettes that come out. It seems like every cosmetics brand is putting one or more out and each is bigger and better than the other. So I felt it was my duty to go into Sephora and review a few of them for you guys. So here they are!

First, there is Tarte's Eye Couture Day-to-Night Eye Palette. Retails for $44.

The eyeshadows are full sized and are huge! The lighter shadows are fairly pigmented and are not chalky at all. However, the true gems are the 6 darker shadows. The pewter one is the standout. It is multi-dimensional with the most amazing multi-colored sparkles. Very pigmented and silky soft. The brushes are OK, but I generally prefer to use my own, but they are not really bad at all. The eyeliner is great. Very pigmented and the line is smooth with no tugging at all. Overall, it is my favorite out of the ones I sampled.

Next, is Urban Decay's Book of Shadows, which retails for $45.

This palette includes 16 gorgeous shadows, 2 brushes, and a travel sized tube of Urban Decay Primer Potion [UDPP]. I truly love the shadows here. Urban Decay is famous for pigmentation and long lasting effect. The variety is amazing, and the palette has all the essential shades as well as a few bright stand-outs. The brushes are awful. Very flimsy and rather useless. The UDPP however is always a bonus. I can't wear eyeshadow without UDPP. It is truly a cosmetic miracle and I wholeheartedly recommend it to every shadow aficionada. I also just wanted to note my dislike of the packaging. There is too much going on, and it is pretty hard to pull the palette out from the casing, but the quality of the product makes up for it fully.

Next, is Tarte's The Vanity Palette. Retails for $52.

You get 16 full-sized shadows. Like I mentioned before, the shadows are pigmented and the color choices are very versatile and complimentary. My pet peeve is with the glosses. I really dislike glosses in palettes in general. Even more I hate glosses in combination with eyeshadows. The shadow dust always gets into the glosses and makes a horrible mess. Furthermore, the glosses are not very pigmented at all, and are just useless to me. However, the good thing is that the set includes Tarte's amazing mascara, and the cult favorite Park Avenue Princess bronzer, as well as a luminizer and 4 powder blushes. Overall, it is an amazing value, and the glosses do not ruin the appeal that much. I recommend it!

Next up is Too Faced Mini Quickie Chronicles collection.

Each set includes a blush/bronzer, 2 glosses, and 2 eyeshadows. I love the portability of the quickies, as well as the pin-up girls covers. But that is where my love ends. The shadows are not silky smooth, and do not last long. Also the variety is lacking. If you get the collection you are likely to have at least 3 shadows repeat. The glosses are too sheer, and I already declared my dislike of them. the blushes/bronzers are often very good, so no complaint there. However, overall I do not think the set is worth the money.

Finally, there is the Sephora's annual blockbuster palette which retails for $48.

The size of this is intense and perhaps overwhelming, but fear not because you should not even look at it, less buy it. the 71 eyeshadows are tiny, chalky, unpigmented, and just plain awful. The cream eyeshadows crease within minutes, the sponge-tipped applicators are useless. The blushes are OK, but they generally break me out, and it is hard to achieve a good color, the liner is OK too, but not as good as Tarte's. The powder is dry and chalky and the brushes are flimsy and cheaply made. Other than the sleek packaging, I have nothing good to say about this palette. It is a good gift to give to a teenage girl, but otherwise I would not recommend this palette to anyone.

Ride in on the Riding Boot!

So I realized that there is one essential iece missing from my fall wardrobe -- a tall flat riding boot. As a result I went on a rather fruitless quest to find me a pair.
The ideal that I was basing my goals on was the Loeffler Randall Matilde Boot below:

The color is stunning, and the 1/4 wedge adds a bit of height while retaining a necessary degree of comfort. However, the $700 pricetag was a major turnoff. Luckily, there are many similar styles available out there. So I went to 34th street to try them on.

First, i stopped by ALDO to try on the LARIN boot. The leather was soft and the color was deep and very versatile, and the boot was very comfy. There was only one tiny problem -- the sizing! 6.5 US was too tight [I wore thick socks specifically for sizing] and 7 US was huuuuge. The salesperson told me to get insoles, but I do not believe in them in general, and especially considering that these are pull on boots and it will be a pain sticking them inside and fixing them when they will inevitably come loose. So I went a few doors down to try on the Steve Madden Intyce boots below:

This pair fared even worse than the ALDOs. The leather was fair good, but the actual bootie part was very stiff and weird creases appeared when I walked around. The main issue was the sizing, which was completely off. Either my feet grew weirdly a quarter size larger, or the shoe-makers have gone insane all at once. Either way I had to leave them in-store.

Next I went to MACY's to check out their inventory. The inventory was bad. Nothing struck my fancy -- nothing! With my tail between my legs I was going towards my bus stop when I spied a pair in the window of an AEROSOLES store. Now, I consider AEROSOLES to be a frumpy store and never go in there, however in my defeated state I ventured in and left with a new love. These boots were not quite what I was originally looking for, but nevertheless they were perfect. Behold:

The Ride Line boots in dark brown. They are a lot more feminine in real life and the leather is a gorgeous deep chocolate brown. The boots fit like a DREAM and are so incredibly comfortable it is like walking on air [no pun intended!] The only negative is that it is not real leather, however, faux leather is better during the rain and keeps you warmer because it does not breathe as well as real leather. Either way the comfort and style is so great that I do not even care about that. And the slight masculine look will take away from my super feminine skirts and will be a great winterization piece for me. I am truly in love!

Ms. Westwood is legendary in her field. Every starlet is dreaming about wearing one of her gowns and Gwen Stefani immortalized this desire in one of her songs. Her gowns are stunning and make every woman feel as pretty as she can be. So, naturally, I was stunned when I saw her newest creation -- The Penis Necklace! This is simply the most bizarre piece of jewelry I have ever seen [at least from a couturier like VW.] I would expect this from the Playboy brand, but not from her. I will admitt that it is the classiest penis item I have ever laid my eyes on, but nevertheless it is *cough* not my style *cough*. It is most certainly a conversation starter though!

How Can They Walk in Those Heels??

I am sure many of you have wondered how can women walk in sky-high heels. The runway models make it all look so easy, but even they are not immune to the hardships of stiletto balance. Here are two models from the Prada 2009 show falling down on the runway. Perhaps their ankles were just too skinny to balance on those heels.

Warning! The first 3 photos look extremely painful. I hope she did not twist her ankle or worse.

This one did not fall so bad, but it looks as if her foot came completely out of the shoe.

EEEK! But for what it's worth I now feel better about not being able to WALK in 4 inch heels.

Weirder and Weirder Shoes...

Inspired by the "pregnant woman shoes" below I went on a search for some more "weird" shoes and just wanted to share some of my findings with you guys. Now before you gasp or shudder or giggle and wonder who the hell would wear these, please note that some celebrities actually wore these out in public and thought they were cool!

These are the traditional Japanese wooden shoes on some serious steroids.

A nude female statute at the heel seems to be a popular theme.

My first thought was "futuristic Barbie shoes"

I think the far right pair is actually not that bad. Definitely a statement shoe though.
